The first Mac I ever owned, a PowerBook G4 which has served me very well over the past 5 or 6 years, is pretty much blitzed. My PowerBook and I visited Matt in Edinburgh on Saturday to see if we could revive it to it’s previous glory. We managed to pull all the stuff I needed from the hard disk, but that was all the good fortune we had.

It turns out the hard disk was suffering from a S.M.A.R.T. failure and locked up Matt’s computer when mounted as a target drive. We eventually managed to format the drive via Matt’s old PowerBook and everything looked good, but alas it was not to be – we received kernel panics when trying to install Mac OS X on the drive.

So it looks as if I’ll have to fork out for a replacement hard disk, which isn’t too big a deal at about £50 for 100Gb which would suit me. Until I manage to get one and install it my PowerBook is out of service.

/me salutes PowerBook, when my copy of the Necronomicon arrives I will bring you back!

Today is that day.

I’m sitting at home in Dumfries, although I’m meant to be sitting in a lecture in Glasgow, because my lift to the station this morning didn’t turn up. I’d usually catch a ride off my dad but he’s off on holiday in another country.

Naturally I was a little displeased about this state of affairs. Anyway, everything else today seems to be annoying the hell out of me, my dog’s being a pain in the ass and things just don’t seem to be going smoothly at all!

For instance my iPod wont connect to my PowerBook through the dock anymore, normally I’d just shrug my shoulders and connect it via the firewire connection which plugs into the dock (which it seems to work perfectly through). However today I’m in a perpetual state of anger, shouting at the dock and threatening to throw it out of the window. Perhaps it’s because of this film I watched last night, The Last Horror Movie, which looked as if it was going to be a decent enough film but turned out to be an utter pile of steaming, freshly lain shit (seriously, never see this movie, not even for the sake of curiosity as to how shit it is). Perhaps it’s because of this itch I have on my back but can’t quite reach.

The thing that seems to be pissing me off the most is the fact that I’m pissed off for no real reason at all.

If you don’t hear from me in a while it’s because I’ve murdered someone, been caught, and have been sent down for 20-to-life!

We’ve just this minute got a delivery of the Vortex (smell) cubes that we ordered at the start of the week, from daleair.com. This means that we are more or less set up to start people on their olfactory adventures! If anyone will be around in Glasgow next week and in around 3-4 weeks time, drop me an e-mail and I’ll get you to do the experiment (you need digital photos ~500ish).

Everything else is going fine, I’m heading off to Edinburgh for the Fringe tomorrow with Gary and Derek, it should be reminiscent of last years trip, but this time with hopefully more busses!

got my PowerBook upgraded yesterday, a gigabyte of RAM added, bringing it up to 1,536 Mb of RAM altogether. It fucking flies now!

So I’ll probably have some more photos to post soon enough and probably a few stupid stories to go with them. Until then,

Friday was spent at the QM. Nothing to eat + lots of drink = me drunk, add one bag containing a PowerBook and an iPod, leave this bag in the bar then go home.

At about 5AM in the morning, realise that you don’t have your bag and conclude that you either left it in the pub or in Stevie’s car. The next day phone the QM and ask if your bag was found in the bar. They will tell you that your bag was not found, you then decide that it must be in Stevie’s car because you definitely had it when you were in the bar.

After trying to contact Stevie, many times, he will phone you and you will ask him to “tell me you have my bag”, he will reply “no man, I don’t”, you then empty your pants as you have just lost £1,750 worth of electronics not to mention the majority of your university work.

Shit, shit, shit, shit!

Stevie then says he left his jacket and suggests that your bag has been put away with it. You then desperately cling to that last hope that your bag is actually sitting behind the bar in the QM. Later that day, Stevie phones one of the barmen working and he checks, your bag is sitting behind the bar with Stevie’s jacket. Stevie then phones you to tell you, you are very pleased to hear this news.

So this just proves that drinking has no bad consequences.
